The World is Flat

This work is a form of play, equal parts intuition and logic, in which physical and pictorial structure overlap. The pieces move the eye between the physical presence of the materials--paper, wood, ink, and paint--and the materials’ pictorial characteristics--compositional structure, implications of perspective, or evocations of light. I’m fascinated by what happens when the eye jumps from seeing a line as a graphic element to seeing it as a physical piece of material--what does the eye jump over in this situation?
